welcome to Barreled in Truth
The Barreled In Truth podcast bridges the gap between deep theological truths and the christian. At Barreled in Truth, we seek to have edifying discussions from a reformed perspective while also being digestible for everyone no matter where they are spiritually. We strive to equip people with sound doctrine in a way that is very easy to understand.
Barreled In Truth started with all of us doing what we love - hanging out with solid biblical community while enjoying good bourbon and cigars, talking about life and theology. The only difference between what we've always done and Barreled in Truth is that we decided to start recording these conversations. These conversations have always been rich with the presence of the Holy Spirit and good theology. We felt like these conversations shouldn't just be kept to ourselves, but shared out to the ends of the earth-to all that would be willing to listen.
Reformed Theology
We like to describe Reformed theology as big God theology. It's a lens by which we see the sovereignty of God in all of scripture. Reformed theology was birthed out of the protestant reformation during a time where there was an attack on a orthodox view on the church, the bible, and salvation. Out of the protestant reformation was the birth of what is none as the 5 solas of the reformation (Sola Scriptura, Solus Christus, Sola Gratia, Sola Fide, Soli Deo Gloria). Reformed theology, as Steven Lawson would say, is simply biblical theology; it is the lens by which we read and understand all of scripture and has stood the test of time throughout all of church history.
Bourbon and cigars
Our stance on cigars and alcohol is that it is a liberty by which we have been afforded to enjoy with wisdom and accountability. Scripture teaches that we are not to turn a good thing into a God thing, not to over indulge, and not to become drunkards. Many things in life can be abused if not done and enjoyed with wisdom and caution. It's not a sin to drink and smoke a cigar however it is a sin to make it an idol. Just like overindulging in food or anything else you find enjoying, if it goes unchecked it can become a sin. To borrow from the late great Charles Spurgeon, "I intend to enjoy a cigar to the glory of God" this is our stance on cigars and bourbon as well.
